This map is in correspondence with the Spanish edition of Donald Ray Pollock's novel, Knockemstiff. David was commissioned to create the cover and some interior illustrations. He says, "For the map, I wanted to capture and interpret the wonderful visual strength contained in those stories and characters. I also wanted to provide the Spanish reader with the opportunity to see how stuff that appears in the book looks in real life (Pabst Blue Ribbon beer, the Dodge Super Bee, Old Grand-Dad whiskey, etc.). All of them icons in American popular culture and strongly present in its collective imagination, so I decided to draw an 'iconographic' map, as you will see." Larger version

Dan sent us this great map of his neighborhood in Cincinnati. He deeply personalized the map by including features such as a house he almost bought, his walking route to play trivia with friends, and his favorite farmers market. Dan writes: "I was at a coffee shop called The Pleasant Perk (noted as 'the Perk' on the map) and was approached by a girl in grad school who asked if I could draw a map of my neighborhood, from my perspective, for an Urban Planning project. She later emailed me my own map back to me and said it was a big hit with the class."
