Lawrence, a surveyor working in Afghanistan, sent us two maps of rural locations in the country found by a friend. Both are current working maps used by public offices to indicate the location of villages, roads, clinics, and other services. The blue map is the most detailed featuring the Goshta district of Nangarhar province. On it, villages are represented by clusters of circles indicating population density in each area. The buildings with the Afghan flag represent clinics and the thickness of the line used for roads is also an estimation of condition. The second map, found in a different location, indicates clinics in the Dar-I-Nur district of the same province. Lawrence kindly provided detailed coordinates for each area so here is a quick Google map showing the relationship between the two districts: Afghanistan Maps.
