Maps of Opposition and Displacement

Kelly creates paintings representing a satirical view of what it means to have ventured into the sea change phenomena (in Australia, an intentional move from urban city life to the 'relaxed' atmosphere of rural coastal towns). Kelly writes, "I'm inspired mainly by the weekly letters column in the local paper, but have since realized that antagonisms like these translate to other streets on the Aussie map - that regional chauvinism is a widespread trait within Australia. My maps are an imaginary commentary on where we live, but what is also obvious is the advertisement of self-aggrandizing pride and piss taken by their inhabitants."
